What to expect

Begijnhof is a privately owned historic courtyard in the centre of Amsterdam, not a public park. Visitors may enter the designated courtyard area daily from 10:00 to 18:00, free of charge; the shaded residential section shown on the site map is not open to visitors. The quiet setting and chapel make it a short, reflective stop rather than a place to picnic or linger in groups.

Visitor access to the marked public portion is free during posted hours. The courtyard is private property and its rules limit where visitors may go.

Visitor notes

The courtyard closes to tourists on King’s Day (27 April). Visitors must leave bicycles, dogs and wheeled suitcases outside, may not eat or drink inside, and groups are limited to 12. Respect residents, keep voices low and follow hosts’ directions on busy days.
