Auckland Domain and Wintergardens

Walk volcanic parkland before stepping into two heritage glasshouses, a courtyard garden and a fernery.

What to expect

Pukekawa's old volcanic contours shape the lawns and paths of Auckland's oldest park. The Wintergardens add a tropical house, a temperate house and a fernery; the Auckland War Memorial Museum sits higher on the crater rim and has separate admission rules.

The park and Wintergardens are free to visit. Museum admission, café purchases and parking are separate.

Visitor notes

The glasshouses are open daily 9am–5pm from 1 November to 31 March and 9am–4:30pm from 1 April to 31 October. Those are Wintergardens hours, not a closing time for the Domain paths. Council describes the Pukekawa Gardens and Museum walk as 1.8km and about 30 minutes; it includes steps and hills.
