What to expect

Aterro do Flamengo follows Guanabara Bay from Santos Dumont Airport toward Botafogo, crossing the Flamengo and Glória neighbourhoods. The public grounds include gardens designed by Roberto Burle Marx, lawns, sports areas and long paths used for walking, running, cycling and skating. This is a large park with several access points, so choose a short section rather than assuming one quick loop covers it.

The public park grounds and outdoor routes are free. Food, parking, organised events and separately operated activities may cost extra or have their own rules.

Visitor notes

Riotur says the Aterro's roadway lanes close to traffic on Sundays from 07:00 to 18:00; the Copacabana, Ipanema and Leblon waterfront roads do too. This describes a traffic closure, not a daily opening schedule for every park facility. Check event and road notices for your date; the route is exposed to sun and has substantial distances between entrances.
